TOM Vehicle Rental

A provider of commercial vehicle hire, sales and services, TOM Vehicle Rental (TOM) was founded as an MOT station in 1991 and grew into a multi-vehicle rental specialist providing a one-stop-shop for commercial vehicles.

TOM offered long-term flexible hire of cars, vans, trucks and trailers to public and private sector businesses, as well as a complementary commercial vehicle dealership through its two franchised dealer brands, Mercedes Benz and Citroen.

Headquartered in Airdrie, Scotland, TOM established a fleet of over 11,000 vehicles across six hire locations in Scotland and five in England.

THE EXIT

Following a sustained period of underperformance at TOM Vehicle Rental and despite Equistone investing additional capital into the company to mitigate its cashflow pressures, TOM was unable to meet its repayment schedule on its existing operational loans that were in place prior to Equistone’s ownership. Consequently, the group’s remaining operations were placed into administration in 2018.
